Lake Rules
Please read carefully before your visit.
In Place to Protect the Fishery.
The rules at Near Gatten exist for one reason: to protect the welfare of the fish, the fishery, and every angler who visits. We ask that all anglers read them carefully before arriving and respect them throughout their stay.
Anyone found to be in breach of the rules will be asked to leave the fishery immediately. No refunds will be issued in these circumstances. The lake management accepts no responsibility for loss or damage to persons, equipment, or vehicles whilst on the premises.
You have a duty of care to the fish, the wildlife, those around you, and yourself. Please take care whilst on the fishery.
Tackle & Rigs
- Barbless hooks only
- Strictly no fixed leads, lead core, braided mainline, or bent hooks
- No zigs
- Maximum 2 rods per angler (March–November)
- Maximum 3 rods per angler (December–February)
- Bait boats permitted on exclusive bookings only
Fish Care
- All anglers must use the landing nets, slings, and unhooking mats provided by the fishery only — no personal nets or mats
- No keepnets or sacks to be used at any time
- Handle fish with the utmost care at all times
- Fish over 35lb to be photographed in the water
- Fish must be returned as quickly as possible
- No slinging or sacking of fish
Bait
- Freezer baits only
- No floating baits permitted
- No tiger nuts permitted
- Freezer boilies only
- No fake/plastic baits
- No maggots or worms except November to March
- No particles
On-Site Conduct
- No access to the complex prior to the gates being opened
- No loud radios, fires, swimming, heavy drinking, or antisocial behaviour
- No pets
- No visitors
- Under 16s must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult at all times
- Do not damage any trees or fauna on the site
- All cars must be parked in the designated car park — gates locked each evening
- Anglers must have a valid EA licence
- Rods must not be left unattended
Litter Policy: All litter must be taken away from the fishery when you leave. This includes cigarette butts, bottle tops, and empty toilet rolls — these are classed as litter and we take this seriously. Leave the fishery as you found it, or better.
Issues on the Bank: If you have any questions or concerns during your stay, please speak to one of the bailiffs or owners directly. We'd rather resolve something on the bank than have it spoil your session.
Cancellations & Rescheduling: The fishery reserves the right to cancel or reschedule any booking at any time due to adverse weather, fish spawning, or any other unforeseen natural or environmental circumstances beyond our control.
